IFPS Methodology Workshop

co-sponsored by

National Weather Service Western Region,

OCWWS Training Division (COMET and NWSTC),

Meteorological Development Laboratory and the Forecast Systems Laboratory

Workshop Details

What:  GFE/IFPS Methodology Workshop

Date:  Jan 14-16, 2003

Where:

Forecast Systems Laboratory

325 Broadway - David Skaggs Research Center

Boulder, Colorado

Who is invited:  One (1) IFPS Focal point from each WR office, plus our friends in Alaska Region,  Pacific Region  and bordering mountain offices (Denver/Grand Junction/Riverton/Albuquerque).

Why:   OCWSS/WR will be co-sponsoring a GFE/IFPS workshop Jan 14-16, 2003.  By this time, the next version of the IFPS should be out which includes the newly released  GFE formatters and we are just 6 months from the  September 31 IFPS operational implementation. The workshop will focus on complex terrain/coastal issues with spin toward the practical sharing of information.

Contact Information:  Brian Motta (OCWWS) is the workshop lead and can be contacted at (303) 497-6561.  In WR, Andy Edman is the contact.

Actions for attendees prior to the meeting:

1) Due Date: January 1:  Please make hotel reservations by Jan 1.  WR sites will use office code.  AR and PR should consult their regional focal point (PR - Ken Waters, AR - James Partain).  Speakers need to contact Brian Motta.  Hotel and travel information is attached at end of agenda.

2) Due Date: January 1: Please let your contact know the name of the workshop participant. An email is fine.

3) Due Date: January 8:  The success of the workshop will depend heavily on the active participation of the attendees. We are discovering together how to make best use the GFE.  Please select you best local IFPS methodology or practice from your office and be prepared to discuss it.  We are requesting that each office bring a slide or two to explain your best practice and show an example.  E-mail this to Brian and Andy by Wed Jan 8. Brian will include these in slides on the workshop web site.

4) Due Date: January 14:  In preparation for the Formatter Session, Please read the GFE Text Product User Guide sections "Quick Start Product Set-up" and "Backward Compatibility".
http://www-md.fsl.noaa.gov/eft/rpp/doc/onlinehelp_RPP19/TextFormatter.html#Quick Start Product Set

5) Bring a local methodology training guide copy if available.
