1) Introduction

The material in this session is designed to provide local office staff an overview of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Tropical Prediction Center's (TPC) role in the Interactive Forecast Preparation System (IFPS) methodology used at Warning and Forecast Offices (WFOs). The TPC produces "TCM grids" which are used to create the official and forecast databases in preparation of graphical forecast grids.

Dr. Rick Knabb, SOO at TPC,  is the instructor for this lesson and has created this training session based on his IFPS Methodology Workshop presentation.  This training is offered to facilitate the collaboration between TPC and field forecasters and hydrologists.  Use of TPC TCM grids is different than other national centers guidance in that it places limitations/boundaries in the forecast which will affect forecasters' IFPS methodology during tropical cyclone events.

2) Prerequisites
None. This is an introductory-level course.  Previous exposure to the use of HPC Delta-grids, change grids, or work grids in IFPS would be beneficial but is not required.
